May is traditionally a month for honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year, nearly the entire month of May is also in the Easter season (Pentecost, the final Sunday of Easter is on May 28). We end the month of May with two Marian feast days: the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church on May 29 and the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on May 31. As we continue our celebration of Easter, we can join Mary in rejoicing that Jesus is raised from the dead—and what this meant for her and what it means for all of Jesus’ followers.
Find out about some Flowers Named for Mary and encourage children and parents to spend some time outdoors together, locating those flowers that grow in your area.
Pray along with Mary’s yes to God (her fiat) and her song of praise (Magnificat) in John Burland’s music video to the song, “God Reigns.” May the lyrics “I place my trust in you, O God, in your mercy, in your glory and might” be a special prayer as we prepare to say good-bye to our students for the summer months.
