Luke 9:51–62

“Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” –Luke 9:60

Leave malicious talk to those who carry malice in their hearts. Abandon gossip to folks with empty minds and hours to occupy with trivia. Surrender violent speech to the violent. If you seek the way of life, move in the direction of vitality and hope.

In other words, if you seek the Kingdom of God, don’t linger in the graveyards of culture, fashion, and trends. The ways of stagnation and death are legion. We can amuse ourselves to death, as Neil Postman used to say, or we can live purposefully and sincerely. Do you want to make a difference? The world can use you. Do you want to be part of the solution and not add to the problem? Become a disciple of truth. Are you brave enough to love? Jesus says, “Follow Me.” Don’t hesitate too long to choose which side you’re on. If you wait too long, the choice will be made for you.

Name five ways you can choose life over death today. Try to make it ten tomorrow.

While The Gospel at Home takes a break in the summer months, we’ll be drawing our weekly reflections from Exploring the Sunday Readings.
