Mother-and-Son Saints: Monica and Augustine

Mother-and-Son Saints: Monica and Augustine

Recently, I read a post on social media that said: “I’m not just lucky, my mom is always on her knees praying for me.” The prayer of a parent has so much power! On August 27, the Catholic Church celebrates the Memorial of Saint Monica, Saint Augustine’s mother. She was a woman who trusted that God would ultimately hear her pleas and bring her son close to his fatherly love. It took Saint Augustine many years to understand that his heart could not rest until it rested in God. We remember this holy Bishop and Doctor of the Church this week as well on August 28.

Click here for a Saint Monica coloring page and to learn more about her and her son, Saint Augustine, who became a Doctor of the Church.

Reflect on some rich and insightful quotes from Saint Augustine here.

Lord, we pray for our sons and daughters and for all the children under our care. Help them find their way to your heart. Amen.
