This Sunday is the World Day of the Poor as well as the date for the special collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development in the U.S. Caring for those who are poor is foundational to our Christian faith and practice. It’s often easier to do charitable works—making donations of money, food, and clothing—than it is to get informed about and involved in changing unjust social systems that contribute to keeping many people in a cycle of poverty.
