We’ve reached the last Sunday of our Gospel Weeklies program year!

We encourage you to use the Post (or Final) Tests to assess student comprehension and the effectiveness of your teaching methods.

Don’t forget to send home the What the Church Believes and Teaches Catechism handbooks. These handbooks can serve as useful reference tools for both children and parents.

If your parish program or school schedule extends beyond this Sunday, be sure to check out our new Summer Solemnities Unit and the Late Close Lessons in our Activity Books and online.

Every week in the GROW newsletter, you will find helpful tips for teaching your Gospel Weeklies lesson, a reflection on the Sunday Gospel, and links to online resources.

Seeds
Lesson Theme: We belong to the Church.
For this lesson you will need crayons, markers, scissors, copies of the story coloring page (one per child), ribbon, and a Church Year calendar.

Today’s lesson is about being a leader and being a follower. Preschool children love to be first in line. They feel important when they lead in the classroom. They will also enjoy leading others in following Jesus as members of the Church.

Promise
Lesson Theme: We belong to the Church.
For this lesson, you will need copies of the story coloring page (one per child), Short Prayer of Love drawing pages (see page TG4-35), scissors, crayons, pencils, a Church Year calendar, and large envelopes (one per child). We suggest that you arrange for an aide or aides to assist with cutting and folding. We also suggest that you separate pages 1–2 from 3–4 in advance of your class session.

In this lesson, the children will learn a Short Prayer of Love. Encourage them to pray it often and add to it as suggested in the What the Church Believes and Teaches section of the lesson plan. This prayer also appears on this end-of year certificate. Other end-of-year certificates can be found here.

Good News
Lesson Theme: Jesus is our way to God.
For this lesson, you will need pencils, crayons, and a Church Year calendar.

The Good News children have talked about the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist many times this year. In this lesson, they are introduced to the Sacrament of Confirmation. Together with Baptism and the Eucharist, Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation. Although our program year ends before the celebration of Pentecost on 5/28, we anticipate Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit as a helper, guide, advocate, and comforter. The children learn that the Holy Spirit and the Sacrament of Confirmation will help them to follow Jesus’ way to God.

Venture
Lesson Theme: Jesus reveals God’s presence.
Pentecost is referred to by some as the “birthday of the Church.” As part of this final regular Venture class, consider organizing a Birthday Box drive. The activity on page 8 in this week’s lesson features birthday boxes—a small box filled with everything needed for a birthday party, from hats to a cake mix and frosting. These boxes can be donated to your local food pantry for distribution to families in need. In this Sunday’s Gospel, tells his disciples that God his Father is revealed through him. Ask the children: In what ways might people see God revealed through you?

Visions
Lesson Theme: We are living stones.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, tells his disciples that God his Father is revealed through him. Ask the young people: In what ways might people see God revealed through you? Make sure to have scissors available for the Living Stones activity on pages 7–8. If this is the last time your class will meet, make sure to send home the Catechism handbooks with the young people.
