Sunday, June 21, is Father’s Day. We encourage all families to celebrate and thank the father or father figure in their lives on Father’s Day. And be sure to pray for all fathers. You might like to use one or more of these prayers from website of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus says, “So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” This isn’t the only time Jesus points to God’s small, winged creatures and assures us of our importance to him and his faithful care for us. “Do not be afraid” are words Jesus says repeatedly in the Gospels.
Yet many of us tend to fear and worry instead of truly trusting God with our lives. We acknowledge Jesus by living our faith in both word and action. And this means trusting God with our fears and worries.
Why does Jesus repeat himself? Because we need to hear it over and over again. His message sinks in slowly, but slowly is better than not at all. May God, who cares for the smallest sparrow, help us to become confident of his faithful care for us too.
June 22–29 is Religious Freedom Week in the U.S. Find resources from the Catholic Bishops of the United States (USCCB) here. Watch a five-minute video The Separation of Church and State by Chris Stefanick here.
