On August 15, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day, we at the Pflaum Publishing Group and other Bayard, Inc. companies also celebrate the patronage of Our Lady of the Assumption.
Our parent company, Bayard Inc., is solely sponsored by and comes under the educational charism of the religious order of the Augustinians of the Assumption. Our editorial office is on the campus of Assumption University in Worcester, MA, which is also sponsored by the Assumptionists.
The founder of the Assumptionists is Father Emmanuel d’Alzon (1810–1880), who came from the south of France. The motto of the order is “May Thy Kingdom Come.” Venerable Emmanuel d’Alzon’s cause for canonization is underway. Read more about the work of the Assumptionists and Bayard here.
Find inspiration in some of Father d’Alzon’s quotes:
- Education is the formation of Jesus Christ in souls, and teaching is the illumination of souls with the splendor of Jesus Christ.
- Before working to make Jesus Christ reign over other, be sure he reigns over you.
- Jesus Christ! The more you love him, the more you want to imitate him.
- Let us surrender ourselves to God’s power, to his light, to his love, so that he alone may will our hearts.
- The coming of the Reign of Christ for ourselves and our neighbor, that is what we seek above everything else.
- The Church needs prayer as much as apostolic zeal.
Pray along with Venerable Emmanuel d’Alzon in the following prayer and in other prayers found here:
O my God, give me the light to see what is lacking in me; give me the strength to acquire the virtues that I do not have. Give me the grace to follow my vocation, so that as a true child of the Church and of the Blessed Virgin, I may imitate not too unworthily the virtues of Jesus, my Master.
