Luke 6:19–31

This Sunday’s Gospel challenges us to be selfless and care for others who need help. Jesus tells a story of a poor beggar named Lazarus who lived outside the gates of a rich man’s house. Lazarus’s requests for help were ignored for years. Lazarus finally found comfort in Heaven after he had died. The rich man passed away and suffered in Hell. The rich man begged Abraham for mercy, just as Lazarus had once begged for help from the rich man. Abraham reprimands the rich man for his actions during his lifetime and for not heeding the warnings in Scripture. Jesus reminds us that we have been provided with all the resources in our lives to understand God’s desire for us to serve one another. Take time this week to become more aware of the ways you can share God’s love with other people.
