Lent Begins on Ash Wednesday

Lent Begins on Ash Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday, Catholics begin the forty-day observance of Lent—a contemplative season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus. This year, Ash Wednesday falls on February 26. Share with your students and families these Lenten resources:

  • Ash Wednesday is a resource page that explains its history and practices.
  • Lenten Fast and Abstinence lists the guidelines, including who is expected to fast and ways to expand your experience of fasting and Lenten sacrifice.
  • Analogies for Lent challenges Visions students to discover what Christians are asked to do during Lent.
  • Lenten Quiz assesses what Venture students already know about the season, including its purpose and practices. This activity is available in both English and Spanish.
