We’ve nearly reached the last Sunday of our Gospel Weeklies program year!
We encourage you to use the Post (or Final) Tests to assess student comprehension and the effectiveness of your teaching methods.
Don’t forget to send home the What the Church Believes and Teaches Catechism handbooks. These handbooks can serve as useful home reference tools for both children and parents.
If your parish program or school schedule extends beyond Sunday 5/10, be sure to check out our Summer Solemnities Unit and the Late Close Lessons.
Every week in the GROW newsletter, you will find helpful tips for teaching your Gospel Weeklies lesson, a reflection on the Sunday Gospel, and links to online resources.

Lesson Theme: We belong to the Church.
For this lesson you will need crayons, markers, scissors, ribbon, copies of the story coloring page (one per child), and a Church Year calendar.
Today’s lesson is about being a leader and being a follower. Preschool children love to be first in line. They feel important when they lead in the classroom. They will also enjoy leading others in following Jesus as members of the Church.

Lesson Theme: We belong to the Church.
For this lesson, you will need copies of the story coloring page (one per child), Short Prayer of Love drawing pages (see page TG4-31), scissors, crayons, pencils, a Church Year calendar, and large envelopes (one per child). We suggest that you arrange for an aide or aides to assist with cutting and folding. We also suggest that you separate pages 1–2 from 3–4 in advance of your class session.
In this lesson, the children will learn a Short Prayer of Love. Encourage them to pray it often and add to it as suggested in the What the Church Believes and Teaches section of the lesson plan. This prayer also appears on this end-of year certificate. Other end-of-year certificates can be found here.

Good News
Lesson Theme: Jesus is our way to God.
For this lesson, you will need pencils, crayons, glue sticks, paper, magazines, scissors, and a Church Year calendar.
As Jesus prepares to return to Heaven, he assures his followers that they know the way. The children have been learning Jesus’ way all through this Good News year. This Gospel links to many of the concepts the children should already be familiar with. As your time with them is coming to an end, this lesson will help you review these themes. Make sure you affirm the children for what they have learned and retained in your time together.
Note that Venerable Fulton Sheen will be beatified on September 24, 2026. At that time, we will refer to him as Blessed Fulton Sheen. Being named Blessed is the last step in the process before being canonized and named Saint.

Venture
Lesson Theme: Jesus is our way to God.
For this lesson, gather pencils or pens, a crucifix, coloring tools, and a Liturgical Year calendar.
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples that he is “the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus shows us the path to God. An important part of following this path is to accept our responsibility to help build and serve the Kingdom of God here on earth. This means working toward the Common Good and embracing the principles of Catholic social teaching. Jesus reveals God to us. Our actions toward justice for all God’s people will help others see God revealed through us.
If you have not already used the bonus activity about the Annunciation on page TG4-36, you may wish to include it in this lesson in relation to the page 8 activity or send it home with the children to complete.

Lesson Theme: We follow Jesus in building community.
For this lesson, you will need pens or pencils, coloring tools, scissors, and Bibles (one per student). If time will allow for you to pray a decade of the Rosary together, you may wish to bring rosaries for the children to use.
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples that he is “the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus shows us the path to God. An important part of following this path is to accept our responsibility to help build and serve the Kingdom of God here on earth. This means working toward unity with people who are different from us. It means serving others and working out conflicts that separate us. Jesus reveals God to us. Our actions to create and sustain unity with all God’s people will help others see God revealed through us.
If this is the last time your class will meet, make sure to send home the Catechism handbooks with the young people.
