I love the month of May! It is not only the month that the Catholic Church dedicates to Mary, Our Mother, but May is the month when many children receive the Blood and Body of Christ for the first time. Last Sunday, a boy and a girl received their First Communion at our parish. It was great seeing their smiling faces as they brought the gifts of bread and wine down to the altar. They looked so eager and happy, wearing their very best clothes. And then, when the moment came and they received their First Communion, their little faces where beaming as they came back to their pews to give thanks to the Lord.
All Catholics should keep the same awe and unparallel joy a child experiences when receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus for the first time. Can you imagine what a church full of people praying with the same faith and devotion as little children would look like?
Let us ask God to help us remember that, when we approach the altar to receive Communion, we are actually receiving the very flesh and blood of His Beloved Son.
