It’s time to get your Catechetical Sunday plans together. And the program year for the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies begins with the same Sunday!
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me . . . to bring good news to the poor” (Luke 4:18; cf. Isaiah 61:1) is this year’s Catechetical Sunday theme. This Scripture passage reveals Jesus’ mission and identity. Anointed by the Holy Spirit at his baptism, he was sent to bring hope, healing, and freedom—especially to the poor, the brokenhearted, and the forgotten.
Jesus revealed that the Messiah came with compassion, not with power or status. He came to restore dignity and proclaim and show God’s mercy. This becomes a model for the Church, which is called to continue Christ’s work by sharing the Good News and caring for those most in need.
