Four times during the program year, Pflaum Gospel Weeklies provide three or more ready-to-print activities for each level: Seeds / Semillas (Preschool), Promise / Promesa (Grades K, 1), Good News / Buena Nueva (Grades 2, 3), Venture / Aventura (Grades 4, 5, 6), and Visions / Visiones (Grades 7, 8, 9). Each season also includes special features for Family-Parents. Labeled for Fall, Holiday, Winter, and Spring, these four sets of seasonal resources roughly coincide with the four units of the Gospel Weeklies.
You may use them as busy work for those who arrive early for class, incorporate an activity into your class session, or send them home as family activities. Note that the resources for Family-Parents can be formative and enriching for catechists and teachers too.
Here are some timely examples:
On February 3, Catholics celebrate the Feast of Saint Blaise, patron of those suffering from throat ailments. Who is the patron of people with earaches or those with other illnesses? Who is the patron saint of butchers, lawyers, workers, or students? Quiz your children on these Winter Patron Saints / Santos patronos del invierno or send this activity home as a fun family activity. Encourage the children to find out more about their own patron saints.
Seeds / Semillas: Blessing Before Meals / Benedición de los alimentos
Promise / Promesa: The Sacrament of Baptism / El Sacramento del Bautismo
