This 14th-century saint endured a great deal of violence and sadness in her life, including physical abuse and the death of her spouse and twin sons. She expressed interest in a religious vocation from early on, but was discouraged by her parents who thought that marriage would ensure her security. After the deaths of her family members, Saint Rita joined the nearby Augustinian convent. Saint Rita is the patron of impossible cases.
