This past weekend, we commemorated Memorial Day in the United States. It is the unofficial start of the summer. Our faith formation programs have come to an end, and our classrooms are most likely closed by now. We have begun a well-deserved period of rest from our catechetical duties. But is this really true?

As I was looking at this Sunday’s Readings for the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, the words of the Gospel Acclamation caught my eye, “Go and teach all nations, says the Lord; I am with you always, until the end of the world” (Matthew 28:19a, 20b).

As Jesus was returning to his Father in Heaven, he left us a clear mandate to TEACH. As followers of Christ, our duty to teach others about Jesus doesn’t begin and end with the school calendar. We don’t always need a lesson plan and some clearly stated objectives to share our faith. Let us make the most of these summer months to spread Jesus’ Gospel in our actions, in our words, and even in our silence.
