This week, we hear a challenging parable about a rich man who is cheated by his steward. After squandering his master’s property, the steward makes amends with his master’s debtors by lowering their debts. The steward hopes that this goodwill offering will help repair friendships with those in the community he has lied to. The master commends the steward for acting wisely. Jesus reiterates that we should strive to be trustworthy in both big ways and small so that we develop honest habits.
