Pentecost is an opportunity to help children and young people understand the role of the Holy Spirit in the Holy Trinity. They are likely to embrace the idea that Pentecost is widely considered to be the birthday of the Christian Church. Ask them why we celebrate birthdays and what traditions they enjoy most. Explain that Catholics traditionally wear red to Mass on Pentecost Sunday. This liturgical color symbolizes the tongues of fire that rested upon the disciples and allowed them to preach the Good News through the power of the Holy Spirit. Share this Pentecost celebration (English, Spanish) at your parish.
