Saints l Saint Mother Theodore Guérin (page 6) Mother Theodore is a recent American saint. The children may learn much more about her at the Sisters of Providence website ( The sisters also have several biographies of Mother Theodore written for young people.
Closing Prayer l Memorare (page 55 in What the Church Believes and Teaches) Pray aloud this prayer
and play “Mary, a Woman of Faith” (CD-2, #16) to close your time together.
Remind the children to share their Gospel Weeklies with their families and to do the With My Family and Friends activities and prayer together.

Feasts of Mary (page 17)
Turn to page 17 to find some of the feast days celebrating Mary. Add any Marian feast days that are specific to your city or parish community. For instance, Mary is honored as Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12. The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is July 16.
Point out the Hail Mary, on page 52 and the Rosary on page 54. Remind the children that they can return to this prayer throughout the summer.
Turn to page 55. The Memorare is a favorite prayer of many older adults. Older people will remember other words to the prayer. Mark this page to save it for your closing prayer.
Have the children close the What the Church Believes and Teaches handbooks and return to Venture, page 5.
Our Catholic Faith l Summer Prayer for the Spirit (page 5) Remind the children that we will celebrate Pentecost this year on Sunday, May 20. Read the preparation section. Set out the candle and bowl of holy water. Distribute
slips of paper. Encourage the children to think of a way to put the Gospel values they’ve learned this past year in Venture into action during summer vacation. Have them write what they will do on the slip of paper. Choose eight leaders and one reader and have the rest of the class join in the All parts of the prayer service.
Live the Gospel
Objectives l The children will:
l Trace the life of Saint Mother Theodore Guérin.
l Place in order the major events in the life of the Blessed Virgin
Living the Gospel l Mary in the Bible Timeline (pages 7–8) This activity pulls together many of Mary’s appearances in the four Gospels. Have the children cut out the ten squares on page 7 and follow the directions to learn about Mary in the Bible. They can also play a version of Concentration putting one child’s set of cards picture side up and another’s text side up. The children take turns making a match. The one with the most correct matches wins.

“Eye Has Not Seen”
In 1 Corinthians 2:9, Saint Paul explains that Heaven will be more than anyone on earth could ever imagine. Even so, artists have tried to picture Heaven in many ways.
How do you imagine Heaven? Draw or write what you think Heaven is like.
