Curriculum Connections
l ELA: Invite the students to write about Jesus, including adjectives and adverbs in their sentences. (CCSS.ELA- Literacy.L.2.1.E)
l Math: Give the students the length and width of a rectangle. Tell them that they are going to design a garden in this rectangle. Allow them to select different plants they would like to plant in their garden. Then have them partition the rectangle into parts with equal areas and assign each area a specific plant. Encourage them to consider how much space the largest plant will need (i.e., pumpkins require the rectangle to be partitioned into a larger area than tomatoes). (CCSS.Math.Content.3.G.A.2)

Catholic Identity Project of the Week
This week, coordinate with the other 2nd- and 3rd-grade religious educators to clean up the parish grounds. Invite parents to help. This might include planting new plants, weeding, cleaning up dead branches, etc.
Saints and Feast Days to Celebrate
l April 29: Saint Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor of the Church – Catherine’s short life was remarkable because of her complete surrender to Christ. She was an intelligent, cheerful, and intensely religious person. In spite of her contemplative lifestyle, she took note of public affairs. Ask: How can our private prayer influence our public responsibility?
l May 3: National Day of Prayer (USA)
l May 3: Saints Philip and James, Apostles – Little is known about
these two of the 12 Apostles except that Jesus chose them to be among the 12 pillars of his Church. Ask: How can we be faithful in quiet yet important ways?
