Scripture Background
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus adds to his growing community and shows us that God’s love is for everyone by his actions of touching and healing a leper. People in Jesus’ time feared lepers and made them live apart. Jesus’ action of touching the leper gives us an example of including people in our lives whom many consider outcasts and outsiders. Jesus makes it very clear that when it comes to his community, there are no outsiders. The healed leper immediately tells others about Jesus, calling them to become insiders too.
Connecting Scripture and Doctrine
Visions helps the young people take a closer look at bullying and its dynamics. It also helps them examine whom they include in their circles of belonging and to whom they might extend friendship, respect, and the healing power of acceptance.
“Christ’s whole life is a mystery of redemption... above all through the blood of
his cross. This mystery is at work throughout Christ’s whole life...in his healings and exorcisms by which ‘he took our in rmities and bore our diseases’” (CCC, 517). “Prayer to Jesus is answered by him already during his ministry, through signs that anticipate the power of his death and Resurrection: Jesus hears the prayer of faith, expressed in words... or in silence” (CCC, 2616).

Ash Wednesday Is Our Time to Grow and Change
How do you want to change this Lent? It can be a time
to work on virtue, which
is the habit of doing good and wanting to do good. Maybe you want to be more courageous when it comes
to standing up for what you believe in or for another person. Maybe you want to become quicker to forgive, or set aside more time to pray or read the Scriptures.
Leader 2: God of all goodness, you call us to live at peace and to change our hearts. Help us on our Lenten journey
I promise to change my heart this Lent by:
As you pray together, think about a change you may want to make during Lent. Leader 1: Caring God, help us as we begin the season of Lent. Let it be for us a season of growth and change, all the way to Easter.

pray.
Leader 1: Loving
God, sometimes
we bring trouble to
our family members and teachers.
Reader: This is the Gospel for Ash Wednesday. (Read Matthew 6:1–6,16–18)
All: God of mercy and love, as high as the sky is above the earth, so great is your love for all people. As a father is kind to his children, so God is kind to all who offer honor and praise.
All: Jesus, change our hearts. Leader 1: Loving God, we have been lazy at home and in school, and have not been helpful to our families.
need food and schools like we have.
All: Jesus, change our hearts. Take a moment to think about and write in the heart what you would like to change in yourself this Lent. When all are finished, pray together:
Psalm 103:8,11,13

All: Jesus, change our hearts. Leader 2: Loving God, we have quarreled and called each other names.
All: Jesus, change our hearts. Leader 2: Loving God, we have not done good for others when we had the chance.
All: Jesus, change our hearts. Leader 1: Sometimes we worry too much about ourselves and not enough about others.
All: Gentle and loving God,
we thank you for all the good things you constantly bless our lives with. Please be with us as we journey through Lent to a glorious Easter. We ask this in your name. Amen.
