Curriculum Connections
l Math: Explain to the children that some diseases, such as leprosy, multiply very quickly. Have the students multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number and two two- digit numbers. (CCSS.Math.Content.4.NBT.B.5)
l Health: Explain to the students that one of the most common ways sicknesses spread is through our hands. To help the students visualize this, ask each student to put hand lotion on their hands but not rub it all the way in. Sprinkle a generous amount of glitter on one student’s hands, and then have that student shake the hands of her/his classmates. Have the students observe how
the glitter spreads between students. Conclude the lesson by explaining the proper way to wash hands. (NHES.7.5.2)

Catholic Identity Project of the Week
When he healed the man with leprosy, Jesus helped both the man and the community. We often overlook people who do good deeds. Research some local people doing good deeds and share their stories with the children.
Saints and Feast Days to Celebrate
l February 14: Ash Wednesday – This day marks the start of Lent. The 40-day period symbolizes the time Jesus spent in the desert before he began his ministry. Lent comes from the Old English word lencten, which means spring. Receive ashes today and begin your Lenten journey.
l February 14: Saint Valentine of Terni – It’s believed that Valentine defied the emperor Claudius who prohibited soldiers from marrying before they headed to war. The secret marriages he performed may have led Valentine to be known as the patron of lovers and happy marriages. Send a loving message to someone who misses you.
