                                Scripture Background
In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus adds to his growing community and shows us that God’s love is for everyone by his actions of touching and healing a leper. People in Jesus’ time feared lepers and made them live apart. The Law of Moses commanded people with skin diseases to live outside the community, hide their faces, and call out “unclean” as a warning to anyone who came near them. Jesus’ action of touching the leper gives us an example of including people in our lives whom many consider outcasts and outsiders.
Connecting Scripture and Doctrine
“Prayer to Jesus is answered by him already during his ministry, through signs that anticipate the power of his death and Resurrection: Jesus hears the prayer of faith, expressed in words” (CCC, 2616).
