              For Catechists and Teachers
Scripture Background
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus brings God’s life-giving, healing power among the people of Galilee. Mark pictures Jesus dynamically, as a man of action who raises up Peter’s mother-in-law to serve among his disciples, who heals the sick and frees the possessed who crowd at his door, who seeks time to pray, and who hurries on with his followers to the next town.
Connecting Scripture and Doctrine
Venture explores ways children can imitate Jesus’ compassion and love for people. “The whole of Christ’s life was a continual teaching: his silences, his miracles, his gestures, his prayer, his love for people, his special affection for the little and the poor, his acceptance of the total sacrifice on the Cross for the redemption of the world, and his Resurrection are the actualization of his word and the fulfillment of Revelation” (CCC, 561). “Jesus often draws apart to pray in solitude, on a mountain, preferably at night. ... His words and works are the visible manifestation of his prayer in secret” (CCC, 2602).
