4th Sunday of Lent
Jesus came among us to reveal God’s ways and God’s great love for us. Jesus’ life reveals love as God’s power. Those who believe in Jesus believe in the power of God’s love as the light of their lives. They believe
in God, whose life-giving power raised Jesus from the dead. Christians have the power of Jesus’Death and Resurrection to help us turn darkness into light, enemies into friends, troubles into joys. Jesus gives us his own power to love, forgive, and share..
Connecting Scripture and Doctrine
Second and third graders are still into self-serving behavior. They are egocentric and self-interested. But regular challenges to practice empathy and forgiveness and to do loving actions will help them mature as Christians. This Good News lesson emphasizes forgiving.
“InJesusChrist,thewholeofGod’struthhasbeenmademanifest....‘Whoeverbelievesinmemay not remain in darkness’ (John 12:46)” (CCC, 2466). See also CCC, 262, 444, and 603.
Editor’s Note: Just as we have the option to use the color rose on the 3rd Sunday of Advent as a sign of our joy, we may also use rose on the 4th Sunday of Lent. This Sunday is known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare (like Advent’s Gaudete) refers to rejoicing. Christians rejoice in the salvation gained for us by Christ’s suffering, Death, and Resurrection.
