Curriculum Connections
l Sci: Show the students pictures of the same species of plant or animal. Have them identify the inherited traits and explain how these traits are present in a group of the same species. Help
the children recognize that traits can only be inherited from parents. (NGSS.3-L.S3-1)
l SS: Discuss with the children the fact that Jesus travelled around to nearby towns to tell people about God’s love. Ask: How did Jesus know where to go? Have the children construct maps of their neighborhoods so they know where to go to tell people about Jesus. Then in small groups, have the children construct a map of your state. (D2.Geo.1.3-5)

Saints and Feast Days to Celebrate
l February 6: Saint Paul Miki and Companions – A Jesuit brother born in Japan in late 16th century, Paul Miki and 26 others— catechists, missionaries, laymen, servants, elderly people, and children—were crucified in 1627 for their Christian beliefs. Today, there are about 500,000 Catholics in Japan.
l February 8: Saint Josephine Bakhita – Kidnapped, sold into slavery, and abused, Josephine Bakhita eventually came to live with Canossian Sisters in Venice. There, she dedicated her life to God. Canonized in 2000, Saint Josephine Bakhita is patron of Sudan.
