Sunday’s Gospel asks us to use our talents, not let them stay hidden. Write about your top eight talents.PFLAUM GOSPEL WEEKLIES Faith Formation ProgramNovember 19, 201733rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Volume 37, Number 2TG2-4For monthly gatherings, family catechesis, and summer intensive model pacing plans, visit gospelweeklies.com/pacingplansNovember 19, 2017 • 33rd Sunday in Ordinary TimeSunday Readings: Proverbs 31:10–13, 19–20, 30–31; 1 Thessalonians 5:1–6; Matthew 25:14–30For Catechists and TeachersScripture BackgroundJesus tells us a parable about three servants in Sunday’s Gospel. Their master entrusts them with Materialscolossal sums of money and goes away, just as God gifts us incredibly with our human life and abilities and our life as God’s children. Two of the servants double the sums, but fear inhibits the third servant from doing anything but preserving what he has. This parable challenges Catholics to recognize their responsibilities in caring for the world and for each other until Jesus comes again. It clearly shows us that being a follower of Jesus means taking risks to become our best selves.Connecting Scripture and DoctrineVenture tells the story of a girl trying to find out where her talents lie. She does not bury her gift, but tries and tries again. The lesson affirms the value of all children’s gifts, especially their abilities to love, trust, believe, reach out, share, and help.As always, Jesus is our model: he uses his gifts of healing and preaching. “The whole of Christ’s life was a continual teaching: his silences, his miracles, his gestures, his prayer, his love for people, his special affection for the little and the poor, his acceptance of the total sacrifice on the Crossfor the redemption of the world, and his Resurrection are the actualization of his word and the fulfillment of Revelation” (CCC, 561). “Human work proceeds directly from persons created in the image of God and called to prolong the work of creation” (CCC, 2427).l Venture Student Lesson for 11/19l Catechism handbook, page 51l CD player and Venture/Visions CDsl Pencils or pens, a small rubber ball l Bible, cloth, candle, matches/lighterSuggested Musicl “We Will Walk With God” (CD-2, #8) l “Word of Truth and Life” (CD-1, #1)Lesson Resourcesl Venture Activity Book, Activity #29l Lesson Assessment (gospelweeklies.com/assessments)Single-Session Lesson Pacing GuidesNote: These pacing guides are suggestions on how to present the lesson.
