First, Jesus tells about a vineyard owner who hires workers at dawn, nine, noon, three, and  ve. The owner promises to pay a day’s wage to the  rst he hires. He pays the last hired the same, which seems terribly unfair. The parable is not really about wages but God’s abundant love.Next Jesus tells about a father who asks his two sons to work in his vineyard. The  rst refuses but thinks better of his choice and goes to work. The second says yes but never shows up. In which son do we see ourselves? The third parable is about murderous tenants who kill the servants who come for the owner’s shareand then kill the son. What should the owner do? In the fourth parable a king invites guests to his son’s wedding that refuse to come. What should the king do? These stories echo Jesus’ life.In the next two Gospels, Jesus debates with other teachers about whether Jews should pay Roman taxes and about which of the 613 laws in the Torah is greatest. Jesus continues to turn expectations upside down, telling the most powerful people of his day that the greatest person is the humble servant, the one who serves. The unit closes with the parable of the wise maidens who prepare properly for the wedding and the foolish maidens who end up missing out on the feast.Visions’ stories and activities encourage young people to put the Gospels into action, especially the two Great Commandments. They belong to the Church that continues Jesus’ mission on Earth.What’s New for 2017-18Over the last year, we met with teachers, catechists, and program directors who use the P aum Gospel Weeklies with their children. We asked questions, we listened, and we hope that the changes we’ve made will help you bring the Gospel to your children in even more meaningful and lasting ways.We expanded the lesson plans to help you pace the Weeklies for how you use them, whether your class meets every day or every week. We’ve worked with teachers to develop Curriculum Connections that tie the Weeklies to other learning areas, including language arts, social studies, math, and science. The new Catholic Identity Projects were developed to help connect children to the larger Church.We’ve also recently launched GROW—Gospel Resources of the Week—a new blog that brings the Sunday Gospels, saints, feasts, prayers, and timely free printables in one convenient spot.
