(page 6) Have the young people read this feature silently. Then discuss the students’ responses. Ask: what would you do with so large a gift of money? While saving money is admirable, challenge the young people to set spending priorities. What would they “owe” to others?Living the Gospel l What Is God’s? What Is Caesar’s? (pages 7-8) This activity uses money as a vehicle for middle-school students to prioritize some of their allegiances. Provide scissors to cut out the $10 bills. Read aloud the first sentence and the instructions below the heading Personal Spending. Allow time for students to complete their allowance budgets. Remind them to record their amounts on the budget sheet on page 8, since they will be turning in their paper money. Then follow the instructions for Class Spending. Have the young people place their bills in separate category piles, and tally dollar amounts and percentages on the board or newsprint. After discussing the questions as a class, allow the young people to reflect on them privately. Add as a group to the list of ways to work for fair wages.Closing Prayer Invite the young people to name people or causes for which they wish to pray. Examples could include clean water, safe housing, food, and meaningful employment.Make a second list of conflicts the young people see or experience among people. Remind them that these conflicts could be local, national, or international.Read aloud the rest of the article to your group as a summary.Have the young people close their What the Church Believes and Teaches handbooks and return to Visions, page 5.Catholic Faith Word l Responsibility (page 5) Introduce the Our Catholic Faith feature by reading the word responsibility and the de nition aloud. Ask: For what and for whom are we responsible? Why are we responsible for others and to help them when they are in need?Our Catholic Faith l Christians Share Their Gifts (page 5) Have your young people identify the kind of giving they see in the picture. Have three volunteers read the feature aloud, starting with each large purple letter. Pause after the second section to read aloud the Saints feature on Saint Justin Martyr. Instruct the young people to  ll in the checklist at the top right of the page.
