Note: If you pronounce unfamiliar words  rst, you will help build con dence in children who volunteer to read the feature.Our Catholic Faith l Liturgy Is the Church’s Public Worship (page 5) Ask the children to identify the part of the Mass in each photo; then read this article on the two main parts of the Mass: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Ask the children ways the Mass is like a meal— people gather to eat together; the altar is a table; the Body and Blood of Christ are food. Give the children time to complete the activity and review their responses, making gentle corrections where necessary. Answers: 1. First and Second Readings, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Reading, Homily, Profession of Faith, Prayer of the Faithful; 2. Preparation of the Gifts, Eucharistic Prayer, The Lord’s Prayer, Sign of Peace, Holy Communion.Live the GospelObjectives l The children will:l Create a banquet based on God’s criterion of welcoming everyone.l Review words related to family and Church celebrations.Living the GospelIs for Everyone (pages 6-7) This is a fun activity that drives home the point that God wants everyone to enjoy creation and community. Together, read the  rst column on page 6, which presents the themes of both Sunday’s Gospel and the First Reading from Isaiah.Read aloud the directions for the activity. Make sure everyone understands what to do by brainstorming together who could be invited and what foods would be good. You may wish to put the children in pairs to complete the activity. As the children work,go around the room asking how the people they choose will talk together. Gather in a large group to share how the guests enjoyed the banquet and each other.Puzzle l Celebration Puzzle (page 8) Have the children solve the puzzle in class or complete it as homework. Answers: Thanksgiving, wedding, Con rmation, homecoming, victory, shower, birthday party.Closing Prayer Many Catholics pray the Blessing Before Meals to give thanks to God for their food. Before sharing Eucharist at Mass, Catholics join hands and share The Lord’s Prayer. Standin a circle, join hands, and pray The Lord’s Prayer together. Recall that the king in the Gospel invited people to a joyous family banquet celebrating his son’s wedding. Recall the reading from Isaiah 25 about a banquet to feed all people.Ask children about when they have attended family reunions or wedding receptions. Ask them what was the most fun. Emphasize people gathering together, stories and time to play with cousins. Read aloud the fourth paragraph on page 15.Turn to page 21. Have children volunteer to read aloud the four paragraphs about Eucharist in the second column.
