October 29, 2017 • 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time Live the GospelObjectives l The children will:l Articulate rules that this Good News class lives by.l Experience in a game some ways they can follow Jesus’ Law of Love.Activity l Our Class Has Rules (page 4) Gather in a circle. Have the children pick up their copies of Good News and read together the ve class rules. Add any class rules your class has. Then decide which rule is most important to your group. Write that rule on a piece of newsprint and ask the children to come forward and sign it as they move to their work places. Post this rule in the same area as your grapevine poster.Return to the second paragraph under “The Great Commandment” on page 4. Ask: What are some of the rules you follow each day? Discuss how these rules—including your classroom rules—connect to Jesus’ great rule of caring for God, each other, and ourselves.Activity l Keeping Jesus’ Law of Love(pages 2–3) To play this game, groups will need one child’s copy of Good News, two coins, and a game marker for each child. Go over the rules and then allow the children to start playing the game. Go around the room, observing the groups as the children play. You may learn a lot about the children who are hesitant to talk in class but who will share their understandings and feelings with their peers in this game context. When groups have played one or two rounds of the game, gather as a whole class and discuss the ways the children kept Jesus’ Law of Love. Obeyed parents and teachers, helped siblings, included outsiders, shared with the poor, used talents, praised and thanked God. Ask: What are some of the unloving actions in the game? Stealing, teasing, cheating, acting sel shly, making trouble, disobeying.Summarize by noting how these loving and unloving actions relate to the Ten Commandments. Jesus’ Law of Love includes all the other commandments. That is why it is the greatest rule.Closing Prayer Gather in a prayer circle and ask the children if they have people and intentions they wish to mention in prayer. Respond “God hears our prayers” to each intention.End your prayer and gathering by singing “The Great Commandment” (CD-2, #18).Remind the children to share their Gospel Weeklies with their families and to do the Family Corner activities and prayer together.Lesson Wrap-UpThe NEW Gospel WeekliesAnswer the following questions based on the lesson.1.
