Early Start Lesson 1We Meet Jesus in the GospelsThe GospelsOverviewWhat do your Venture children know about Jesus Christ? From whom did they first learn about Jesus? This Early Start lesson will be a review for some of your children and a life-changing introduction for others. No matter where your children are on their Christian journey, We Meet Jesus in the Gospels will challenge them to learn more about Jesus Christ. It will also prepare them to listen and reflect on the Sunday Gospel each week in your Venture class.Share ExperiencesGreet the children warmly. Gather with them in the prayer area (set with a Bible, cloth, and candle. Light the candle. Begin the lesson with the song “We Are Called” (Venture/Visions CD CD-2, #12).Opening Prayer: During the year, Venture will help the children develop a life of prayer by giving them practice in various prayer forms. Explain that the prayer of petition means we ask God for people and things we are concerned about. Askif anyone has something for which they want the group to pray.Begin with your own prayer. For example, “Let us pray for my brother who is in the hospital.” Ask the children to use the response they usually make during Sunday Mass or one such as, “Loving God, hear our prayer.” Give each child who wishes a chance to offer a brief prayer. Keep them from long explanations of their concern. End with a brief prayer in your own words asking God to hear your prayers.Who Taught You About Jesus? Children loveto tell stories. Hearing how their faith has been formed will be enlightening for you and helpyou as you lead them through Venture lessons in the following months. Use any of the questions below to elicit the children’s stories. You may wish to ask all the questions of one child at a time or allow for group discussion of each of them.
